12/22/11
A Final Message from Ed Collins - Project Manager
Well, we did it.
We finished on the date we
forcasted 7 months ago.
We made good on our promise to get Cara and her two girls into their new
home before Christmas.
Thanks to all of you for
the past 7 months of meetings, planning, decor selections, purchasing, material
acquisitions, coordination, construction, etc.
Our appointment with the
closing attorney was today (12/222/11) at 1:30. We completed the installation of the
vent hood and dryer at 12:40.
There are too many people
that went the extra mile to list plus I would leave someone out. All
I can say is thank you. You are amazing.
The home is
beautiful. The family is overwhelmed and the home far exceeds their
expectations.

Cara Scott Home Update
Greetings all,
Amazingly we are right on
the schedule for completion of the Habitat house developed 7 months
ago. We are within 10% of our budget estimate. I hope you are able
to join us this final workweek.
What will be doing you
asked?:
MONDAY - Dec.
12 9 AM until ?
- Grout shower wall tile (2
baths)
- Install floor base
boards and trim
- Paint (2) exterior doors
(temp must be above 55 F)
- Vacuum attic
- Load and return
construction trailer stairs. Takes 4 pretty strong men to load onto
trailer for transport. Option: we may take it to the recycle center and
build a new one for house #4 (or maybe burn it in place and pick up the
nails).
- Unload last of materials
in storage shed and return those to the construction trailer
- Final caulk and touch up
paint
WEDNESDAY Dec. 14 -
9 AM until ?
- Last 3 appliances
arrive. Set into place.
- Final touch up paint (from
moving appliances and materials in/out)
- Outside AC unit arrives
(nothing for us to do!)
- Landscaping arrives;
grass sod, scrubs, roof runoff boxes (nothing for us to
do!)
- Cleaning crew arrives for
final cleaning of all rooms (others have been invited, but as of today,
Mary Collins is the only person committed to be there. It will be a very
long day for her, if others don't volunteer) Spread the word, she needs
help.
- Wash down driveway and
porch
- City inspection
(final)
- Walkthrough inspection
with homeowner. A "punchlist" of needed items will be
developed.
THURSDAY Dec. 15 - 9
AM
- Punchlist, item by item
corrections
FRIDAY Dec. 16 - 9
AM
- Mary Collins and Liz
Cubage will "stage" the house for the party and blessing
SATURDAY Dec. 17, 6:30 PM -
volunteer and donor appreciation party
SUNDAY Dec. 18, 3:00 PM -
house blessing
Yes, it's tight, but it can be done
if we can get about 8 to 10 people to help on Monday, 4 to 6 on
Wednesday and 3 or 4 on Thursday.
Thanks in
advance!

Work Schedule for week of 10/24/11
- Monday - continue with
sheetrock. Reeder's will be there to
finish the clothes dryer duct work. Sheetrock contractor will visit the
site to provide a bid to texture sheetrock. We will schedule him to
do the work on Friday if his price is within a reasonable amount.
- Tuesday - Execute order for paint from Valspar. TD Landscaping will
visit the site to do material takeoff for landscaping (most, if not all, will
be donated!)
- Wednesday - (hopefully)
complete the sheetrock & call for inspection. This may be a late
day, if we cant finish by 3 PM (we can use help this day). Parker
will deliver interior trim. Complete trim on side entry and
caulk.
- Thursday - Visit to Pease Flooring in Smithville to negotiate carpet. Floor tile has been donated.
- Friday
- Subcontractor to spray texture. Do material takeoff for bathroom
tile. Contact tile suppliers for tile, counter tops,
and contact driveway contractors to provide pricing on drive and
walks. Start selection of lighting fixtures. We need
to identify and schedule those who will provide exterior and interior painting
labor.
- Saturday - Crew of 4 to start the trim on
doors, floors, & windows. We can use 2 or 3 volunteers to
finish the exterior caulking in preparation for painting

Here is an "artistic" look at the Cara Scott home so far.
9/21/11 Progress
Report
House #3 - 325 E. Reed
St. La Grange
We had two good work days
this week, Monday (9/19/11) and today (9/21/11).
The gable end of the porch
is now complete, Cara Scott, the homeowner, stopped by to check
on us at lunch today and loves it. Take a drive by to see what she is
excited about.
The metal roof is complete
and the siding is about 90% complete.
We are now planning wall
and ceiling insulation in preparation for the sheetrock and texture to be
followed by painting.
Other good
news: Both the electrical and plumbing rough-in (inside
walls, ceiling, and attic) are complete and inspected.
HVAC is about 75%
complete.
There will be no work on
Monday (9/26/11) because of the Methodist Men's BBQ at Blue Hills, during the antique
fair, and the Hostyn Catholic Church has a Feast planned Monday. Next work
day is Wednesday (9/28/11).
The Hostyn Catholic men's
group will move from working two days per week (Mondays and
Wednesdays) to one day per week (Mondays). We are pretty much on
schedule at this time but in order to stay on schedule, we need a committed
group to work on Wednesdays. We will also be looking
for Churches and Civic Organizations to commit to just one
Saturday each between now and project completion (mid-December?). We
are starting inside work so no work on the roof, electrical, plumbing,
etc.
We can use help with: insulation,
finish outside caulking (now at about 50%), inside wood trim (after
sheet rock is complete), interior caulking, painting (experienced help only
please), mounting interior doors, installing cabinets and hardware, mounting
lights and ceiling fans, mirrors, tile work (some experience would be nice
but training is available), hang window blinds, and general cleaning at
the end of construction in preparation for move in.
If you have not volunteered
yet, this is a good time. You missed all the hot weather. Please
call me if you have any questions. You can always go to our website
to volunteer, or just call me.
